“WHAT REMAINS CLOSE”
A solo exhibition of ceramic sculpture by Rachel Hadari

Newport, RI – Cusp Gallery is pleased to present What Remains Close, a solo
exhibition of ceramic sculpture by Rachel Hadari, on view from April 25 through May 31, 2025.

Hadari’s sculptures are grounded, intimate forms that beautifully illustrate the strength of
human connection. Figures lean into one another, hold space, and form constellations
of support. They depict the weight we carry and the ways we are shaped by touch,
proximity, and shared experience. These works are physical expressions of relationship,
of memory held in the body and passed between generations.

The exhibition unfolds in three groupings: Building a Village, Sentinels, and Primal
Bonds. Each explores a different facet of connection, from community and protection to
ancestral memory. The clay speaks through pressure and pause, through the echo of
hands shaping surface. Each piece carries experience, as if shaped by time itself. The
forms are harmoniously rooted in the past and fully alive in the present.
Hadari began her ceramics practice in 2018 following a three-decade career in fashion
design, curation, and education. Originally from Israel and now based in Brookline,
Massachusetts, she studied at Shenkar College and Tel Aviv University and continued
her artistic development through Harvard’s Ceramics Program and a residency in
Tuscany, Italy.

​This exhibition marks the second solo show in Cusp Gallery’s new location, a historic
home on the former Doris Duke Estate in Newport, Rhode Island. As a contributing
member of the Newport Arts Collective, Curtis Speer continues to offer space for
thoughtful, resonant exhibitions that reflect both individual practice and shared human
experience.
