Photography and Woodturning
Mark explores the many facets of contemporary woodturning and carving. His styles include segmented turning, sgraffito which takes an ancient art form and applies it to modern turned objects, segmented vessels which are first constructed of hundreds of pieces of wood glued together and wood turned into beautiful forms and his fascinating trompe l’oeil effect called the basket illusion with his introduction of his aeries of Native American art all out of wood. In the basket illusion, solid pieces of wood are turned, beaded, wood burned and hand colored to resemble woven baskets, plates and maple shields. His newest endeavors combine his love of birds and his fascination in carving them. Mark has won numerous awards in venues such as Spring Bull Gallery, Wickford Art Association, and Jamestown CIA. Marks works can be seen in private collections in California, Michigan, New York, Wisconsin, New Jersey and Rhode Island.
